Mark Hoppus Opens Up About His New TV Show ‘A Different Spin’

I’ve interviewed Mark Hoppus a few times, and he never ceases to deliver. Whether he’s talking about a band he’s produced, or relinquishing blink-182 details, he always has the right thing to say — in other words, he’s an interviewer’s dream.

Now, the charismatic bassist is getting ready to launch the premiere of his music series, ‘A Different Spin,’ and I had the privilege of chatting with him once again. In this PopEater piece, Hoppus opens up about his first interview with John Mayer, his co-host Amy Schumer and, of course, that new Blink album fans are dying to get their hands on. Read the full article here. ‘A Different Spin’ airs on Thursdays at 7 p.m. on Fuse.

Mediabistro Hosts Second Annual Career Circus

On August 4, Mediabistro hosted its second annual Career Circus, featuring invaluable advice from today’s top career advisors, entrepreneurs and media professionals. As The Job Post blogger for Mediabistro, I was lucky enough to be able to attend and live-tweet the event from @MBJobPost (follow us!).

I was truly inspired by the speakers, but dismayed by some of the questions and comments from the audience members. Some people had been on the job hunt for years while others seemed to lack the basic knowledge of how to apply for a position. Still, the speakers offered tons of great tips, many of which I’ve included in the Career Circus recap here. Enjoy!

Courtney Love Dishes Out Pearls of Wisdom on ‘Behind the Music’

I really haven’t paid much attention to Courtney Love in the past few years, but seeing her in this video was like reconnecting with an old friend. An old, loopy friend, but a friend nevertheless. In a way, I understand her level of crazy and while she may make some people’s eyes roll with her antics, those same people will be paying attention to her for years to come. Read my full PopEater story and watch excerpts from Love’s recent ‘Behind the Music’ special here.

Elton John’s Letter to Ryan White

International pop icon Elton John penned a letter to Ryan White, 20 years after the Indiana teen’s death. The letter, published by the Washington Post, expressed the singer’s sadness and sorrow, but also served as a reminder to the world how far HIV/AIDS research has come in the last two decades. John brings up political issues in the letter, as well, saying that President Barack Obama’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy was promised, but has “not yet been delivered.” Read my full story on PopEater.

Kelly Clarkson is defending herself from some heavy mudslinging over a tobacco company’s sponsorship of her upcoming concert in Jakarta, Indonesia. The pop singer commented on the controversy today on her personal blog, saying: “I was not made aware of this and am in no way an advocate or an ambassador for youth smoking.” The singer weighs the pros and cons of canceling her concert, while fans express their support and disapproval online. Apple’s iPad as Explained to Teens (and Maybe Grown-Ups, Too)

Apple announced its much-anticipated iPad yesterday, and while geeks everywhere were freaking out over the live coverage of the event, others were not so impressed. Still, it’s a new Apple product to drool over, and I wrote about its specs for the tween/teen readers on JSYK.com.

The thing is, while I had every intention of simplifying the new Apple offering for young people, the post makes the iPad digestible for tech-challenged adults, too. If you fall into that category (it’s OK, I won’t tell anyone), check out all the basic details of the new gadget here.

Davey Havok Talks ‘Crash Love’ and Blaqk Audio

AFI

I’ve interviewed Davey Havok a few times now and it’s always a pleasure. You would think that someone who’s better at putting on makeup than you are would be intimidating, but he couldn’t be more kind, confident and charismatic. Just before the release of AFI’s eighth studio album, I talked to the Oakland native about the meaning behind ‘Crash Love,’ as well as what’s in store for his side project Blaqk Audio. Brand New Interview for ShockHound

brandnew

Today is the record release day for Brand New’s fourth studio album, Daisy. I got to talk to drummer Brian Lane about the “challenging” record, as well as dispel some rumors about who wrote what. Oh, and there’s that whole part where Lane admits the band was “embarrassed” by their earlier work for a time. Find out how they got over it, what really happened with the album title change and what’s in store for the band in the future in my exclusive interview with the Brand New for ShockHound.

Jay-Z Launches ‘The Blueprint 3′ With Intimate NYC Show

jay-zOn 9.9.09, just one day after the release of ‘The Blueprint 3,’ Jay-Z played a sweet 70-minute set at New York’s Blender Theater for 600 lucky people. Jigga’s super stacked set might have been a little too hot, though — after about an hour, the venue’s fire alarms went off, cutting out the sound from the speakers. Get the inside scoop of what Jay-Z played and what else went down at the DJ Hero/MySpace Music event in my review of the show for ShockHound.
